open to all with HSV 1 & 2

Can anyone tell me what exactly the symptoms of hsv 1 or hsv 2 genitally are? And since I have oral hsv 1 is it possible to still get it genitally?

Than you guys for responding.
Grace,   that's exactly what I thought. I had seen him with cuts and "cold sores" on his lips before but he kept saying it was angular cheilitis, everytime I see my patients in the dental office with angular cheilitis they have it on both ends and have slightly chapped lips. Cold sores I have seen many forms and shapes. My concern is that it is in fact hsv 2 and didn't get any symptoms until now. Since when a virus enters the body we get a tad of a cold but since he already had the antibiodies to respond he never really had a first outbreak? Idk? I've been doing a lot of reading... anywho, he just got a culture done and it only said herpes positive when I read it I asked him if they did any bloodtest and he said no that there is no point herpes is herpes. I'm trying to convince him but I am being safe with him when we do have sex which he hates..... but not until we know for sure right?

your partner needs to be tested with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what his status is.   At this point you shouldn't assume you gave him hsv1 genitally and should be taking full precautions to protect yourself in case he had hsv2 and didn't know it.

what testing did he have done initially?

Oh ya, you can still get HSV2 even though you have HSV1 already.

You likely won't get HSV1 genitally because you have it orally, but you can give your partner oral or genital HSV1 quite easily. But if he already gets cold sores then he's probably not going to get GHSV1. If he didn't already have HSV1 and caught it from you, it's probably going to be oral or genital, but not both.

thank you guys for the responds,
just to be clear my IGG levels were >5.00 H
so what i am understanding is that i can not get genital herpes if i already have hsv 1 orally?

my partner has ghsv but we dont know what type. He hasnt had a blood test to type it he just had his first outbreak in May, he thinks he contracted it before, and i know this will be very discriptive but im scared i might have infected him, we had sex and he was sore for four days then a week later had cuts and bumps all over his penis, the thing is that i am a little confused i know i have ohsv1 but what is the possibilty i infected him and might have ghsv 1 too? i have never had an outbreak down there i got infected with hsv 1 when i was a kid i was 8. If indeed i did infect him wouldnt have i infected him orally? because we kissed alot that time and he even gave me oral sex alot because he was sore, if this was indeed his first inital contact with the herpes virus wouldnt he have had cold sores on his mouth too? because he didnt get any. or was this possibly from years ago and the rough sex made him have his 1st outbreak? he also said his dad gets oral cold sores

if you have hsv1 orally, it's not likely at all that you'd contract it genitally later on.  Once you have herpes on one body part, you have significant protection from it occuring on other body parts. it's not 100% but it's close.

Apparently you cannont tell the difference between the two without getting a test. HSV1 genitally is usually less severe with fewer breakouts, most people only get one or two, and it doesn't shed as often. If you have it orally it's very very unlikely you can get it genitally.

It's faily well explained in the Herpes handbook.
