another cold sore question

ok i know this is yet anothing cold sores and herpes question but ive been getting mixed information, some say the virus that causes cold sores is still contagious even when there is no cold sore present and some sites say only a few days after a cold sore has completely disappeared the risk of transmitting the virus to gentials is still there. my girlfriend has a cold sore and its been there for id say close to 5 days now and what i would like to know is obiviously there is a risk if she performs oral sex on me right now with her cold sore, but is there still a chance i will get gential herpes even after her cold sore is completely cleared up?

That's your next step - to see if transmission is even an issue.

Oral herpes sheds during obvious cold sores as well as periodically in between obvious cold sores.  So yes, you can still potentially contract hsv1 even when your gf doesn't have an obvious cold sore present.

Have you been tested to know your own herpes status?
