are my symptoms definately herpes or am i overreacting?

I had unprotected sex and oral with a women 6 days ago now.  About 36 hours or less, I had a slight burning pain in my groin/thighs and it has been there almost non stop since.  Starting yesterday (day 5) I began to feel overall unwell and also have had unusually sweaty hands/feet.  My legs feel heavy tonight but not necessarily that tired.

There has been no pain in urination or more frequent urination.  My penis itself feels fine so far, and obviously I have not had any sores appear yet.  No fever has happened yet,  but my other symptoms could be considered flu-like I think.

The burning sensation seem to ahve started pretty quickly for it to be STD related, but I had anxiety right after the sex happened because I knew of what a mistake it was.  The anxiety has not subsided and now all of these symptoms.  My doctor took a look and didnt find any swollen glands in my groin, and did not feel my symptoms are evident of herpes.  I actually disagree, but I'm obviously no doctor.  He tested me for every other STD, but said herpes would be too early unless sores appear.  Like I said, however, he does not think my symptoms are a sign.

Any advice and anyone have any experiences similar to this and it end up being herpes?  End up not being herpes?  I have not been able relax.

nothing you've mentioned sounds like genital herpes going on.

the only std testing you've had done so far that was accurate was chlamydia and gonorrhea.  you need to wait at least 6 weeks post encounter for syphilis testing and 3 months for herpes and hiv testing to be accurate.

I totally agree that anxiety can really do a number on you. the risk of a std from a one time encounter is overall low.  follow up with proper testing at the right times for peace of mind and continue to follow up with your provider as needed.

While you are waiting for a reply from one of the board experts, I thought I would dime in on the anxiety. Although, I am in the process of waiting on my followup to a low positive HSV2 test results, I have battled serious anxiety issues since January 2007. I can tell you (if you are not already aware) that anxiety can manifest just about any physical symptom you can think of (especially when you are worried about thed possible onset of a symptom). If you have severe anxiety about a possible heart condition, you can manifest chest pains or pain or numbeness in your left arm. Some of the times the physical symptoms that come with anxiety are actually real. Many of the random pains and/or headaches associated with anxiety come about because of CO2. When we get really anxious we have a tendency to breathe shallow without even noticing. This causes your body to flood with CO2 (You're basically hyperventillating without noticing). When this happens extremities portions of the body can tingle or hurt. Arms and legs can feel week/fatigued and we can become disorientated.

Whew - I probably just put you to sleep. What I am saying is do what you need to - to get good medical attention, but understand anxiety is POWERFUL and not good for your body in any way. You need to try to relax and not let it snowball.
