atypical herpes?

for the past few years, i have gotten a few (what I believe to be) cysts on my inner labia (left hand side only).  i have usually only gotten one at a time and they are about the size of a pea (sometimes the size of a pebble) underneath the skin..no blistering or scabbing...painful only when touched - kind of feels like when you have a pimple deep in the skin. they can swell up to maybe the size of a small marble...but most of the time i have been able to get them to a head and pop them after taking sitz baths (yellow, brownish puss - kind of like a zit and some blood).  occasionally, i cannot get them to pop but they do shrink down and i can still feel the sacs after they shrink for weeks.  they tend to show up in the summer time, after bikini waxing or sex that may be rough or dry.  anyway, i'm creating a post because i happen to have had two of these at the same time (rare) at the time of my annual gyno examination last week.  the area was red and swollen as i had attacked the area the night before trying to pop both of them (was successful with one)....my doctor took a herpes blood test and i am waiting for the result.   he said i may just have sensitive skin and i need to be more careful about sweating, exercise, etc., but he still wanted to take the test because of the redness.   i am really anxious...i will not get the results for another week...i have never had a typical outbreak (no tingling, no blisters, no open sores, no headaches etc.)...only these cyst type things..since my doctor visit 4 days ago, it feels like the cyst i popped still seems to have filled up again (size of a pea again).  the other cyst did shrink but i can still feel the small pebble sized sac. i am wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with atypical herpes with these type of symptoms.

Can you call them back and ask them to read you the blood test results again?  If it's hsv 1/2 combined igg of  5.7 that makes a whole heck of a lot of difference than if it's specifically a hsv2 igg 5.7.  Your hubby will need tested too regardless to see what his status is. Make sure it's a type specific test for him too.

I think your doctor is completely right that these symptoms aren't related to herpes even if you do have it.  Did your doctor discuss any treatments for them?

Hi Grace -

Thank you for replying to my post.  I spoke with my doctor today and he did get the blood test results...it came back positive for HSV2 (5.7 - didn't tell me which one that was for 1 or 2, that is) - letting me know that at some point in my life I have been exposed to the virus.  As far as these bumps/boils go, the preliminary culture came back negative but he will not have complete culture results for 6 more days.  My doctor told me that these boils may have nothing to do with the virus at all (as both you and daisy said) especially with them draining and retaking shape, puss, etc.   I've been with my husband for almost 4 years so my guess is that i have had the virus for some time now...I guess I am lucky that I have never had a typical outbreak so far.

At this point you've messed around with them a lot from the sounds of things. I'm totally with daisy - in the future - don't pop them. warm soaks/compresses to them several times a day is probably the better course of action.  If these ones are coming to a head again - go and be seen and let your provider get a good look at them.

When you get your blood test results back for herpes  - ask them to read them to you and write down the results - ie hsv1 igg 5. 9 and hsv2 igg . 34 or whatever they are. Write the results down like that and post them here to this thread and we can give you help with those too.

hi daisy -

thank you so much for the response.  i hope you are right - i actually have not taken an antibiotic treatment because after they pop i usually forget about it (i called my doctor the first time, and then on subsequent times i haven't bothered since i figured they would come to a head and pop)- i am definitely going to call my doctor tommorrow.  thanks again!

Sounds like you have a re-current boil that is not being treated properly to remove the deep infection which is causing it to keep filling up time and again, anything with yellow/brown pus is infected and needs to be treated with anti-biotics,Herpes lesions or sores do not contain pus.
I would advise you not to keep irritating the situation by trying to pop them, boils take their own time to come to a head, you risk spreading  the infection by doing this.
I'm surprised you doctor is not doing more about this since it's been around for a few years and has more classic symptoms of a boil than Herpes ....
Have you been on any anti-biotic treatment?
