Confused

I had recently been experiencing symptoms.sometimes inside my buttockes and vagina is irritated so i put bacitricine on it.i had recently been on anti biotics for the stomach bug.when i ended the anti biotics the itchy symptoms began so i put bacitricine.i calle my doctor and tol them my worrys and they told me it looked like herpes.it also burned when i peed.the took a uti test for me and did a swab culture test which came back positive for herpes type two.could this have been a false positive test? Also the bumps or what ever they were were very minor i had 2 very small ones and only 1 was painful

no real reason to doubt that your lesion culture was typed wrong.

So does this mean the culture may have given me the wrong type? What blood test should i have taken

the blood testing you had done was the wrong testing. It was non-type specific testing.  did your partner have the same testing done?

no, other infections wouldn't cause a false positive on a lesion culture. lesion cultures depend on actual virus being detected.

just double check that indeed they did type your culture and not just that it was hsv+ and they assumed hsv2 since it was genital.

as I said, I'll gladly take a look at your blood tests too if you want to post them here.

did you have blood testing for herpes or just a lesion culture of symptoms?  If you didn't also have blood testing done, time for you to seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test for yourself.

I will gladly take a look at your partner's blood test results if they will share them with you to post here - e.g. hsv1 igg 7.9 and hsv2 igg .22 or whatever they are.

Since your culture was positive and your blood test was negative then this is evident of a new infection from a recent exposure. It's possible that his test was a false negative since you say this is the only person you've been with.

do you have a regular partner? if so, they will need to seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to see what their status is too.

as castello already said - no real reason to doubt your lesion culture. just make sure that it as actually typed to be hsv2+ and not just + for herpes and assumed hsv2 since it was genital.

odds are you've never been tested for herpes before to know your status. do you know if you have been?

Cultures are as close to 100% accurate as it gets, so it confirms that you do have HSV-2. It's important to inform all partners prior to sex that you have HSV-2.

Usually, the first outbreak is the worst, and this is a good indication that your future outbreaks will be mild. To learn a great deal of information about HSV-2, please read the herpes handbook, which was written by MedHelp's herpes expert, Terri Warren. http://www.westoverheights.com/handbook.htm
