If you haven't read the herpes handbook yet, it's really helpful too. You and hubby both reading it is a good idea. it's free to read online or print out at home. It has lots of useful info including the difference between hsv1 and hsv2 genitally.

You can't assume it's HSV2, especially since your husband was negative (as Grace said, it would need to be at least 3 months since your husbands last partner for accurate results based on that encounter.)
This is why you need to know if your infection is HSV1 or HSV2 - it could very easily be HSV1, especially if your husband performs oral sex on you. Call your doctor's office and see if they "typed" the swab. If not, you'll need to follow up with an IgG type specific blood test.
I have been tested prior to this, and tested negative. I didn't have a blood test, but i was tested with a swab. I'm not sure if I was diagnosed with HSV1 or HSV2. I assumed it was 2. i also have never had a partner aside from my husband, so the only way i could have been exposed is through him. He was unfaithful about 5 before I had my outbreak. thanks everyone for your input.
If it's been more than 3 months since your husband's last partner, odds are that it would've been reflected in his blood testing too.

Were you diagnosed with HSV1 or HSV2 - and, how? Have you ever in fact been tested to know your herpes status prior to this?
Yes very much so, if he hasn't experienced an outbreak and its only been a couple months then it could have be a false negative. Conclusive blood test for HSV is 4 months post exposure.
were you tested from a swab? or blood?
