cold sores

I am so upset!  i've been dating someone for three months and never saw a cold sore.  the other night we kissed and had oral sex.  afterwards he mentioned he knew he was getting sick b/c he was getting a cold sore!  I flipped out!  I asked why he would kiss me AND HAVE ORAL SEX with me when he knew he was getting a cold sore!  Feigning innocence, i'm left stressing about whether or not i will get oral AND genital herpes.  one doctor said no to genital, another said yes to both and i'm hoping you will tell me maybe no to either.  when he kissed me there were no blisters or scabs-just a bump that looked kind of purple.  i didn't notice b/c he has facial hair.  what are my chances of not coming down with genital and my chances of not coming down with a cold sore.  Also, how long will i have to wait to find out?
signed,
devastated

Most people who have hsv1 orally, don't get cold sores to know it.  that is why a blood test can be helpful to see if you even have to worry about contracting hsv1 or not.

yes a fever blister is also oral herpes.

thanks grace.  i have not gotten the blood test b/c i assumed it would take the same incubation time(3 weeks) to appear.  i did talk to someone today who said her husband has cold sores and sometimes accidentally kisses her and she has never had one.  it has at least given me a little hope.  i talked to him and he said his exes and his two daughters have never had a problem with them.  we had an argument about politics anyway--something i pretty much can't budge on ;)  i just can't believe that i was exposed to this by someone i'm not even serious about.  my past relationships have always been long term.  i'm recently single and thought i could just have some fun.  do you know if a fever blister is also herpes?  sorry to unload on you but i don' like sharing this personal info with people i know.  thanks again

Have you had a herpes blood test to see ifyou already have hsv1 and never realized it?

If you are going to get symptoms either orally or genitally, they will appear within the next 3 weeks.

You also need to talk to your partner and let him know how uncool his behavior is and how he put you at risk. Chances are good that no one's ever bothered to do basic education on oral herpes with him from the sound of it :(
