Oral HSV 2

I recently tested positive hsv2 and negative hsv1.  12 years ago I was treated for a serious outbreak of cold sores with Zovirax.  My gyn doctor said I contracted it orally hence the reason for the one time cold sore and no genital outbreaks.  I just found out my boyfriend of a year tested negative.  My question is how can we proceed with sex?  Can we have unprotected vaginal sex?  Can I perform oral sex on him with mine being oral?  I do plan on asking my doctor but curious as to others responses

Even if you can't recall ever having any genital symptoms, unless the only contact you had was oral and no genital sex, odds are that if you really do have hsv2 orally, you also have it genitally.

I know it's a grey area for you but as I said, the only way to confirm hsv2 orally is thru a lesion culture of active symptoms.

Hsv1 igg - 0.90 and hsv2 - 4.90
I only had that one oral outbreak and it was a bad one but never had anything genital, not even a raw spot.  I'm so confused on my boyfriend and I can procede with sex.  We've been together a year, unprotected sex, and he was neg.  My doctor said she is confident it's oral but because the way this virus is, she can't give me a definite diagnoses.

Were you tested thru a blood test? If so can you get the results to post here - ie hsv1 igg .45 and hsv2 igg 4.7 or whatever they are?

Even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. You have a history of a cold sore so hsv1 can't be ruled out  completely yet either.

Most people who have hsv2 orally, also have it genitally.  At this point, assume you have it genitally too and take precautions with your partner. If you really do have it orally, for most folks it never reoccurs and it doesn't shed too much either. the only way t o confirm that you have it orally too would be to get a return of oral symptoms and get them cultured and typed.
