could this be a false positive

I recently tested 5.0 for hsv 1 and 1.5 hsv 2. During that time I was getting over a ulcer in my mouth. My doctor also said my levels were low as far as vitamin d and iron.

I wore a tight under garment that caused irritation the side of my inner thigh close to genital area. I was irritated for a few days went to the gym and snagged a pubic hair in the same area. A small bump developed and eventually I used a napkin to remove the access which was as small as a pimple. Is the possibly hsv 1 or hsv 2?  As I think back in my childhood years I use to get hair bumps a lot and did the same think to relieve the area. I am scheduled to retest in a week

I wouldn't take any antivirals at this point. be seen if you have any obvious symptoms for a lesion culture.

Yes it can affect the results. Unless you are experiencing bad symptoms I would not take the antiviral and seek the WB test as suggested 16 weeks after last sexual episode.

Since my hsv 1 is 5.0 and im awaiting four month since I had intercourse to retest should I take the medication valtrex which the doctor mentioned? Can it affect the confirmatory results?

you can seek out a herpes WB blood test or a biokit hsv2 igg any time after 4 months after you last had sex.

I did the test as a routine std check.

usually ulcers inside the mouth aren't due to hsv1. typically they are canker sores.  you can have both hsv1 orally and canker sores. they have nothing to do with each other.

your hsv2 igg is a low positive. you will need to confirm it with further testing.

why did you test? had you recently had a new partner or something?

I have gotten ulcers in the past in my mouth and tested positive in 2009 for hsv 1 at 5.0 and negative.  One partner for past 3-4 years

Yes this is definitely false positive territory.

However it must be reconciled with symptoms and sexual history. What has been the experience here?
