false negative herpes reading

Can you get a false negative herpes test back? Is there a way you can take something so the test does not detect the virus in the blood? I recently had a test done and it came back positive for HSV2 and when I confronted my boyfriend he had one done and it came back negative. I have not had sex with anyone except him in 3 years Could I have gotten it before and not known it with no symptoms and if so, how come he doesn't have it if I had it all this time?

It is possible to get a false negative result if the test was taken too soon after infection, there is no way that I am aware of that you can take something that would cause the test not to show antibodies if there are any there ( why would you want to do that anyways ? ) As for your boyfriend being negative that is entirely possible it would seem that you were infected before you met him and didn't know until now, what made you get tested if you had no symptoms ? Your boyfriend not having contracted can and does happen, many couples are together for a very long time and transmission doesn't take place no one is entirely sure why this happens with some couples, but I would think that it is in his future at some point if you have HSV2 and are having unprotected sex it's just a matter of time really.
