HSV

Hello. This question is regarding an incident. I made out with this girl and two weeks later I became ill and obtained cold sores (never had them previously). During the time I was ill I noticed a cut like bump near the base of my penis. It was tender, scabbed over (which I picked off in the shower), and then disappeared in a matter of three or four days. I have no had sex (virgin), had one oral sex experience almost 2.5 years ago and have had similar cuts/scabs in the area previously which I have attributed to chafing. Is it possible I inocculated myself during my first outbreak which showed up that quickly after? I asked my GP and Derm. The GP said it would be quite difficult and that I would have to pick at the sore and then touch a previous cut in the area. The derm said it's impossible to know now and that it is possible but not likely. The sores on my lips are still healing....it's been two weeks since their origin. I personally highly doubt I gave myself genital herpes, but am quite a bit of a hypochondriac. I would be absolutely devastated if inocculated myself with an STD....being a virgin....and such. Any insight would be helpful, thanks.

you have no reason to think you have hsv1 genitally at this point.

now that you are more herpes aware in general though be sure to discuss your oral hsv1 with potential partners and discuss their own herpes testing/status ( of which it's likely they were never tested ).

Grace, sorry to rehash this. I'm sure I'm being overly worrysome about nothing. I spoke to a urologist about it...he had a 'wtf' look when I asked him my question. Said he's never heard of that lol. I'm thinking it was folliculitis, but my last question is IF indeed it was genital HSV-1, what is the likelyhood that it should recur? How contagious might it be? Now it's in the back of my head when meeting a new potential partner, lol =\. I appreciate all your help thus far.

I've never ever ever heard of anyone transmitting their oral hsv to their genital area.  if it did happen, it would be the same as if someone had performed oral sex on them - anywhere between 2-20 days.

it's not likelyyou transmitted oral herpes to your genital area. since this is gone, no reason for continued follow up on it. if it reoccurs, be seen promptly for an evaluation.
