genital to genital contact with herpes 1?

unfortunately my girlfriend and i found out that we both have herpes 1 in the genital area..we are now both on valtrex and almost done healing from our first break out. how risky is it for us to have genital to genital contact (woman to woman) in the near future when we are not broken out? since we both have it now? and when are the safest times to d it if any? Also, she had herpes in her mouth and genitals when she broke out...will she ever be able to give me oral sex again and vice versa? thanks.

medhelp is being difficult and won't post my replyto your other post.

oral herpes in adults is almost always transmitted thru romantic type kisses.  You don't have to worry about food and drinks from a herpes perspective.

as for chapstick, personally I share chapstick and such with my children and my lover but I don't share them with friends or anyone else. Other germs are easily transmitted thru sharing them.

How were you both tested?

since you both have hsv1 genitally, all you need to do is wait until this ob heals.  You won't get it "worse" or anything like that - it's a matter of comfort from here on out.

Yes she can still give you oral sex :)
