(I first posted this in the STDs forum before I knew there was a Herpes specific forum. Sorry about the cross-posting.)
Well, last night I did a stupid thing. I cheated (for the first and last time ever) on my wife of 10 years with someone who has been pursuing me for years. I over drank and made a very stupid and selfish decision. Besides the tremendous guilt I am feeling, I am now faced with the possibility I've exposed myself to both herpes and hpv.
Here are the specifics:
- The girl I had unprotected sex with has had herpes for 5+ years and has never had an outbreak since she was first diagnosed 5+ years ago
- She was not currently having an outbreak
- She was recently diagnosed with HPV that she got from a previous boyfriend about 3 - 6 months ago
- My wife is out of the country and will be returning in 23 days
- I know that the IgM test is worthless (after reading extensively on this forum) and...
- I know that the IgG test is the "better" test, but should be taken in approx. 3 months from my exposure
- My wife has been exposed WAY in her past (15+ years) to HPV (genital warts) before we began dating
- I cannot confess this indiscretion to my wife as I am sure it would end our marriage
- I love her very much and have made a very bad mistake and I don't want to risk her getting herpes
So, my questions are:
- When she returns, I know that she will want to make love to me. I will have been exposed for a total of 23 days at that point (too early to test for IgG). If I am showing no symptoms during the 3 months I have to wait to take the IgG test, will she be safe from getting herpes? - If she is in danger at all of contracting it, I would rather confess to her my stupid mistake and make sure I don't make love to her while I wait to be tested. So, again, the question is: Is it safe for me to make love to my wife while I wait to see (assuming I show no signs) if I have herpes?
- If my wife has been exposed to HPV in the past, will it matter that I have been recently exposed to HPV? and...
- Is a single exposure to someone HPV-positive enough of a guarantee that I will pass this off to my wife as well?
I appreciate any answers you can give me.
Thanks (in advance),
- 1stupidnite
ok so she had a pap test that showed + hpv. that too is low risk from a one time encounter but if you did contract it, you'll never know. the types of hpv that infect our cervixes do not cause obvious genital warts. they are the types associated with cervical cancer ( and other cancers ).
