It is difficult to know if she was recently infected or not. The best way to know that for certain is to see if she actually had herpes testing included in her STD screen in October 2012. Most STD screens don't include herpes - this is something she needs to check.
You need to also check to see if your testing in December included herpes testing or not. Do you know? You could certainly get a baseline HSV test if you want to. If you already have HSV 1, then you wouldn't get it again through a sexual contact. You also won't know if you have it orally or genitally if you are positive and have never had a cold sore, and also, you don't know for sure if her HSV 1 is oral or genital.
The symptoms that you describe sound nothing like herpes to me.
Terri
You are most welcome

Thank you for the feedback. It was very helpful.
Herpesvirus 6 and 7 are not the same as HSV 2, I guess you know that. I don't know what you are referring to as HSV 3.
If you are positive for HSV 2 by swab test, this cannot help you determine how long you have been infected, nor does the timing of recurrences.
He can order the HSV 2 antibody test online if he wants to know if he has HSV 2 infection.
Terri
That he wasnt infected with hsv2. If a clinic misdiagnosis you after two doctor visit and says you are not positive for hsv2. How can you go back to the clinic with your positive results and show them that there methods of testing or trying to figure out a diagnosis are inconsistent?
Thanks Terri. Thats was a test taken for the humanherpesvirus 6/7 that my partner had taken to discourage me that he wasnt infected eith hsv 3. But I did plenty of research to insist that he see another doctor (mines) and take a hsv 2 igg specific test and he is truly positive. I dont have any results. My nect question is that I was recently found with a genital lesion that prompted me to get tested which I was positive for herpes2. Then a few weeks later I get another lesion. Does this recurrence mean that I am recently infected?
HSV 2 by antibody test is not an IgM. The numbers that you have listed are not familiar to me.
Terri
Can a person be tested for herpesvirus 7 IgG/ IgM Antibodys test (IFA) to determine if they have HSV-2?
A test for HSV-7. (IFA) was taken and the reference range for IgG was > 1:320 and the result was <1:320, what does the result mean?
Nothing you have described sounds like typical herpes to me.
This will be my last post on this thread.

Good Morning,
I have been experiencing a mild sore throat on the right side of my throat for the last couple of days. Last night, I felt a tiny tiny cut on the right side corner of my bottom lip. It is located more at the top of my bottom lip close to the inside of my month(right side). My lips are no itching or swelling or red, when I touch it with my tongue it does not hurt but it does feel different than the rest of my lip. Since I noticed it last night it has not grown in size.
I know, I have been paranoid about the possible herpes exposure that I encounter 4 weeks ago but I would like your thoughts regarding any connection between the sore throat and lip cut.
Thanks,
My thoughts are that if you are having concerns about the skin changes in your genital area, you should have it evaluated by a professional that can actually see what you are describing.
Terri
Good Morning Dr.
Sorry to keep asking you questions.
For the past week or two I have noticed what seems to be a tiny tiny cut on in the middle of my shaft were the foreskin seem to meet(I am circumcised). Last night, I noticed that there seem to be a white dot in the middle of that cut. I started playing with it and tried to pop it. I am almost sure that it did not pop but I did feel that I enlarge the cut with my fingers. It does not hurt, itch and is not red in color. Next to that cut that I just described, there seem to be a tiny circular of dry skin and foreskin around it. Again no pain or itch. Before I went to sleep last night I put some Neosporin. This morning there was no scab and both area look the same as they did last night and for the last couple of days. They white dot can be a hair follicle but I am not sure.
Also, on the bottom of the tip of my penis, I found a tiny tiny dot that looks more like a tear. Again no pain or icth.
Does this sound like herpes?
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
A test at 8 weeks post exposure will give you about 75% certainty about your herpes status.
Terri
Last questions, if I take the Igg test at 6/8 week mark of exposure and it comes in negative and I do not have any visible symptoms. Do you believe I will be in the clear?
Sorry for the “what if” question but doing research online about this topic will drive you crazy!!
Thanks again for your help.
Have a great day!
I do not believe you are at high risk from a single exposure, no.
I think she should clarify what her previous test included.
Terri
Thanks you for your response. My test did included an HSV-1 & HSV-2 igg test and both came back negative. I have never had a cold sore or anything of that nature.
As far as her test in October, I am not sure if her STD test included HSV-1 and HSV-2. I know she was donating her eggs which is why she was tested. She told me that she has never had a cold sore, so it maybe kind of difficult to determine if she has oral or genital, I would assume. Is it possible that she was recently infected and still have not have had an outbreak but still shows positive on the igg test?
Do you believe I am in high risk do to this exposure? Or at high risk do to the chance this may be a new infection for her?
Thanks again for your help.
