herpes transmission

I've contracted Herpes almost 20 years ago and it's been years since my last out break.   Am I any less likely now to transmit to another person given the time and lack of outbreaks?

I recommend getting a type specific herpes igg blood test done just to confirm type. 20 years ago, typing wasn't done and it was assumed if it was genital, it was hsv2 which isn't always accurate.

You can't afford to do shedding studies outside of a research study where someone else is picking up the cost. it's $50/tube I believe so multiply that by 60 days and well you don't have to be a math genius to know it's pricey :(

Shedding is about 15% of days on average for hsv2.

I haven't been tested to confirm type. Is more type more or less likely to be transmitted?  PLan to be tested again.

Are there signs to look for to detect shedding?  Are there stats on how often someone is in a "shedding" state?

Not really unfortunately. a recent study showed that folks infected for >10 years, are still shedding the virus at about the same rate as someone infected less than 10 years. Also the number of ob's has nothing to do with the amount of shedding either.

Since it was 20 years ago that you were diagnosed, have you ever followed up with any testing to confirm type?
