herpes

I recently suspected a herpes infection coming on, even though I am not diagnosed (waiting for blood tests to come back). I felt tingling on my lips and also had redness down below. My doctor prescribed me valtrex just in case and I started taking it because I was worried and she said it isn't harmful even if my tests turn out to be negative. Anyhow, I am taking 500mg twice a day for the possible gentile herpes, but can it also work for the possible oral herpes? Also, I am out of the country for the next few days and I couldn't get my hands on abreva, so I bought something called Urgo cold sore relief and have been using it. Do you think these are bad ideas? I just want to be safe and prevent an outbreak, especially before I go back to school and have an embarrassing cold sore on my face next week.

Abreva doesn't speed up healing or prevent the outbreak from coming on.  The other product is I am sure not going to do much more to help you.  You need to be see and have your symptoms looked at for a better idea.

also, the urgo product (a gel put on the cold sore) is made of Cellulose derivative, mineral acid, carboxylic acid, vegetable oil, alcohol and water. Could this make the valtrex less effective?
