how soon and what tests should I take?

hi, I recently had an encounter with a male escort. he performed oral sex on me and I did the same to him but not to completion, just for a minute.  there was also kissing involved. I stopped because he asked me to have anal sex with him without a condom and it immediately dawned on me how stupid I was and how risky this was. other than the lack of good judgement, i'm hoping I didn't make a major mistake that will effect my life...what tests should I get and when? This encounter occured around 5am saturday...I already have a sore throat and feel clammy.  Thanks for any advice/info, I do appreciate it.

1 dose cipro doesn't do anything for any std. no idea what your provider was thinking. Not even worth taking just 1 dose.  Perhaps he was confused and really meant to order you 1 dose of azithromycin?

when they call monday with your results, if anything is positive, make sure that they order the proper doses to treat whatever you test + for. sounds like at this point like your provider is not really all that educated on how to treat std's :(

hello again, I had went to my GP and got a swab culture for gon/chla.  I should get the results on monday.  My doctor seemed concerned and prescribed to me cipro 500mg and told me to take it promptly.  My pharmacist thought it was unorthodox that my GP had only prescribed one pill.  I contacted my GP to confirm that was her intention, and she stated that I ony needed one pill due to it being a possible G/C infection.  Does this sound right to you?

save your money and get the full panel at the 3 month post encounter mark. no need to keep spending money needlessly testing too early!

thanks for the reply grace. I guess I should try and curb my anxiety over being stupid but it's quite difficult.  If I do develop any serious symptoms, i'll be sure to post.  I'll also go to my GP for the swab in one week. I plan on getting a ten planel blood test for std's just for peace of mind...maybe in a month, then again in 4 months or so.  thanks again

can you get std's from oral sex? yes you can but overall the risk of such is very low. in general we don't even recommend any testing unless you develop symptoms.

you need to wait at least 1 week to be swabbed for gonorrhea and chlamydia orally. odds are your symptoms  you are experiencing are not std related but if you need the peace of mind, test. just make sure they do your testing orally and genitally

also since my throat has been bothering me, with irritation and excess mucus, has enough time elapsed for me to get tested for gonnerea?

I thought considering my risky behavior that I should at the very least get tested for gonnera, herpes and hiv. am I wrong on that assumption? the last time I was tested for everything was bout a year ago and it came up negative.  this has been my only sexual encounter since.  any additional help would be most appreciated, as this has adversely effected my sleep, work, and is weighing quite heavily on my concious...thanks

Your only risk was hsv1 but orally and genitally. You may already have hsv1 orally and not even know it. You must wait 3-4 months after sex to get the most accurate results for a type specific igg test. Even then you wouldn't be able to tell
If you have it orally or genitally. Usually hsv1 infections genitally present classic symptoms of an outbreak with lesions/sores.  If this occurs be seen as soon as possible to have a culture. Do you know your herpes status to begin with? Most do not.
