hsv 2 in friend, can I get it?

First off, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read through the thousands of questions posted on here.

Here is my dilemma:

My female friend is diagnosed with both HSV1 and HSV2. She hasn't had a genital outbreak in quite awhile, however; she did get an outbreak on her upper arm, which the doctor swabbed and concluded as HSV2. Anyways, I saw her today and gave her a hug, and I'm pretty sure some of the skin on my arm touched the outbreak and so did my shirt. From there, I remember wiping my mouth on my arm (where it touched her outbreak) and also wiping my mouth on my shirt...BAD IDEA!!! I'm freaking out because of this. Also, she says that the outbreak was from a long time ago, but it has just left a scar on her arm and that I shouldn't worry about contracting the virus. So my questions are as follows:

1) Can I get HSV2 this way, in any of the acts I described here?

2) Is there any less/more of a risk depending on whether the outbreak was fresh or just a scar.

3) Should I be worried about having a future sexual partner and giving them HSV2 from these incidents.

I know I have HSV1 from cold-sores as a child, but I couldn't bare to know I have HSV2 also.

Please doc, I know I worry a lot about STD's/HIV as you can see through my many posts on here, but I believe I really was/am at risk from these instances and I paid an additional $20 to ask here. Any advice or information would be greatly and forever appreciated. Thank you :)

OK, that's fine.  You have a history of cold sores also.  I'm sorry, I'm not getting what the issue is here, you and your partner both have cold sores.  I'm glad he has been tested for HSV 2, that's good to know in terms of new infection for you.

If you think its a pimple, then maybe it is.  There is no way for me to know.

This will be my last response on this thread.

No he doesn't have hsv2 infection, but he has had cold sores! Are you sure it looks like a coldsore, bc the pus inside was white/yellow...I think it was a yellow pimple. Idk

This looks classically like a cold sore to me, which you report that you have had in the past and which is confirmed by your HSV 1 positive antibody test. However, only a swab test would confirm or deny that this is herpes for certain.   If you performed oral sex on a partner recently (I don't know how recently), it is possible that you could transmit virus from your mouth to his genital or anal area.  However, if your partner already has HSV 1 orally (which you don't say), it is unlikely that he would get this genitally as well.  Also, do you know if your partner has HSV 2 infection?

Omg Terri...I just got this on my lip recently and I'm not sure if it is a coldsore or a very bad pimple. It is yellow and the pus was yellow, and i don't remember having yellow pimples in the past. Please...I know pictures can't replace actually being seen, but I am posting them here because the thing on my face has popped and it is too late to get a culture. I performed oral sex as well as rimming on my boyfriend recently :( And I am terrified it may have been a coldsore and I gave him genital herpes. I have read that herpes blisters don't have yellow pus, but clear...please and thanks :)

The fourth picture is what the pus looked like when I popped it. Keep in mind I didn't actually "pop" it because it was too hard. I actually scraped the surface of the bump.

The last picture is what it looked like after I "popped" it.

There was also some blood and clear fluid along with the pus.

The test results mean that you are infected with HSV 1, but not HSV 2.

Thank you Dr. I also am a bit worried about the test results I got back. My result for the HSV2 IgG Quant (HerpeSelect) was 0.04 squared...what does this mean? And my result for HSV1 IgG Quant (HerpeSelect) was 7.37 H with a power of 1

If the lesion was healed and all that was left was a scar, you would not contract herpes in the ways that you describe.  You should not be worried about giving a sexual partner HSV 2 from this incident, no.

It's fine that you make as many new posts as you wish.  All I can do is give you my most professional and honest opinions to your questions.

It would be unusual for her to have HSV 2 orally.  And if she did, it would be very unusual for her to have active virus in the oral area.  I would also dismiss this way of getting HSV 2 for yourself.

Also, if she has oral hsv2 and I drink after her (with no visible lesions on her mouth) but did scratch a lesion and put her fingers in her mouth...what are the chances of me acquiring hsv2 then?
