Urethral Herpes?

So about 2 weeks ago I had an encounter with a CSW in which (due to extreme intoxication) I had unprotected vaginal intercourse. After sobering up I immediately went to the ER and got Rocephin and Azrithromycin... at that point they swabbed me and the tests came back negative (as would be expected for that time frame I believe). I had some irritation at the base of the penis, but that started at latest the day after and perhaps was there before the encounter and I believe may be more ascribed to heat rather than anything else as the irritation would go away if I aired out the area. The irritation lasted for at least a 7 day period but then went away. Also a couple of times I had an isolated shooting pain through the groin next to the scrotum... it happened probably 3 times over the course of a week and a half and there was never any associated lesion, plus I have hip issues and vaguely remember having had a similar pain once or twice but I can't be sure. I'm not sure if it's symptomatic with the limited duration or spread out time frame. I had convinced myself after about 10 days that the odds were in my favor... however at about day 10 I had a crawling sensation in the penis and now have painful urination. There is still no external indicator of anything and I'm wondering if this could be urethral herpes? I went to a provider (limited due to my location) and they proscribed Flagyl but I'm not sure how long that should take to work if it's Trich (I took it yesterday, 4 pills in one shot)? My understanding is that it's very rare for painful urinination to be caused by Trich? Anyway, prior to this my status was clear (I had no values for HSV-1 or 2). I'm kinda freaking out and I'm freaking out more so due to the fact that I won't be able to test for hsv for probably 9 months (until I get back home). Of course I'm also worried about HIV, but I think I can order the over the counter test for that.... any advice would be appreciated....

Honestly, when I see men who have urethral herpes for the first time, it is almost always accompanied by genital lesions.  Since you know that you didn't have herpes before this contact, I really don't think that you acquired it at this encounter.  Most times when we see men with urethritis, they have pain more towards the end of the penis rather than the base of the penis and it is most often bacterial.  While it is fine to cover trich with Flagyl (and we do it all the time), the likelihood that trich is causing the problem is a bit lower than it being caused by other things.  I would encourage you to drink plenty of fluids and observe for unusual skin changes.  But if you have none, the statistical changes of you getting herpes at one sexual encounter are very low indeed - not that it can't happen, but it really is low.

You're been covered for most of the bacterial STI's.  If you continue to have issues, you may ask if you could take a course of doxycycline as sometimes Azitho doesn't always take care of the problem

If you do decide to restart the doxy, you need to finish an entire week of 100 mg twice a day.  People who start an antibiotic and don't finish it are killing off the easy bacteria and leaving only the more resistant ones, which can lead to difficulty resolving their infections.

Yes, by lesion, I am thinking of something that doesnt' resolve in one day.

I really appreciate the answer Ma'am. I think part of my concern is that I self medicated with the doxy (I have a supply for ant-malaria) but it didn't seem to help. Of course I stopped at 4 days when I got the flagyl. Maybe I'll restart. I really appreciate the help and hopefully I'll be able to let go a bit because I'm in a stressful environment anyway. Just to double check the irritation that I experienced the day after would not be connected correct? And by lesions you mean the painful blister kind correct? I haven't even had a pimple but I'm not sure if something that was abraded for a day could be a cleverly disguised lesion or not. Thank you very much I really appreciate the help.

So far its been about 36 hours since the flagyl and if there is an improvement then it's minor. The urethral pain seemed to !ove a bit but is mostly still towards the base of the penis... Still no external indicators as far as I can tell and it still hurts much less or not at all after hydrating extensively. I'm not sure where this leaves me other than terrified. Thanks...

The other thing I noticed was that when I hydrate it's much less painful... for some reason this seems like a bad sign to me that it's not bacterial... should I be worried about that? Thanks and, as most posters say, I'm sorry for being so anxious about this....
