Possible herpes/what should I do?

Hi there,

About 4 or 5 months ago, my genitals became extrememly itchy and I scratched so hard that I broke the skin and it was quite painful. It also hurt to urinate and tiny white spots appeared on my inner labia which were painful to touch. These symptoms only stayed for around 4 days and then dissappeared. This happened again a few weeks later and then never happened again. It's been about 4 months since the last time it happened. I thought nothing of it until this week when I remembered about it and thought it might have been herpes. I'm not even sure if they were spots or if they were just swollen parts on my labia. I was diagnosed with genital warts about 2 months ago but it was different from that. I was just wondering if this may have been herpes and what I should do about it? Should I just leave it and see if it happens again? I don't know what else it could have been. I had no headache or fever or anything.

Thanks.

Okay, thanks, I'll go and see my GP after the christmas holidays, it's the next chance I'll get.

it could've been due to bv hence why I asked.  bv also makes you more likely to contract hsv2 unfortunately.

certainly follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test 3-4 months after you last had sex.  best to cover all your bases now then to get surprises later on about herpes.

Ah right okay, I was told by my doctor it's up to me whether I tell future partners I have HPV so I don't know whether to tell them or not.

How much would the test be and how do I go about getting one? I don't even know if it's worth it because I really don't think it was herpes. They weren't really 'sores' as such, really just parts of my labia I had scratched too much and they had become swollen and sore.

About 2 months after I had the 'herpes' symptoms, I was tested for thrush, bv and trichomonas and I did have bv. They gave me metronidazole for it and it has gone away now. Could the 'sores' have been part of the bv infection?

we don't typically test external warts for hpv. genital warts are low risk types and are a cosmetic concern more than anything.

the gum clinics won't give you a type specific herpes igg blood test. you'll need to pay out of pocket for a private doc to give you a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is from what I've been told about the herpes testing in the UK.

when you had your original symptoms 4 months ago, were you seen and had any testing done for bv and such?

I was diagnosed visually with genital warts, they told me I have HPV but I've never actually been tested for HPV. I wasn't tested for herpes, I was tested for HIV, syphillis, gonnorea and chlamydia. I had none of those. They could tell it was HPV that's causing the warts by looking at them. I'm just hoping there's something else it could have been rather than herpes, there was no way the sores were there for long enough to be able to go and get them swabbed. I live in the UK so healthcare is free for me, I think I'll just make an appointment to see my GP and discuss it with her, but I spoke to her about the HPV and she didn't seem to know much about that so it's possible she doesn't know much about this.

I'm no expert, just someone who want's to understand, and talk with someone to, Because I have noone to discus this with,I re-read your post,  and want to know how you found out you had hpv, are you sure the doctor didn't do test's then, I know herpes isn't a standard std test, but u might have been tested.  And I would just schedule an appointment, when your making the appointment tell them you want to be tested for Herpes type specific test, JUST TELL THEM,  not sure what your insurance is like may cost but, be honest with your doctor tell him or her about your previous symptoms, and that you need to know, you may even be able to get the dr to order test's without being seen, just have to pick up a lab sheet, Do you have a primary Dr.?

What do I do to get tested? Go to the doctors and ask for a blood test? I'm kinda worried they'll say I don't need one and won't give me one.

Get tested, I probly told myself a hundred times on the way to get tested that i don't want to know, but I do want to know, I want to protect my future partners, and be informed, you need to know so you can do the right thing's for you and you'r partner,  The symptom's you described are similar to mine, I'm still waiting for the definitive positive, but, I'm pretty sure I have it,
