A c-section done before the rupture of membranes has occured should be great protection for a child born to a mother who has genital herpes. There are a few factors to consider. First, the rupture of membranes. If membranes are intact, they do a very good job of protecting the baby from viruses that are outside or on the skin. Second, was the mother on suppressive therapy at the time of the c-section? That will also help protect the baby. Was the OB who did the c-section aware that the mother had genital herpes? If yes, they will be observing the baby for any and all health issues related to genital herpes. Answers to these questions will help me provide you the best possible responses.

Generally speaking, a child will not get herpes from your genital region if you had a C-section.
Did they know you had herpes? Was the child tested?
