igm result of 1.6, but negative igg results

Hello,
I have recently received an Igm result of 1.6, but negative Igg type-specific results. They did not give me actual numbers for the Igg, only <.91 - negative as a result. My physician's office says that this means I was exposed to the virus recently, but my boyfriend whom I have been with since December tested negative on the Igm and Igg results. I had an unprotected encounter in early October that does cause me concern, however this encounter was 21 weeks prior to receiving these test results. What is your interpretation? Should I still be concerned? I have read a lot about the Igm being unreliable but it still scares me. Another possible complicating factor is that I have SLE and in January both my ANA and anti-double-stranded DNA were positive. I think the ANA was like 1:320 (I may not have that exact, 300 something).

What is your opinion?

Thank you,

Thank you for your response, Grace. The negative Igg results were type-specific. The physician's office has frustrated me regarding this issue. I have cited ASHA, WebMd, Cleveland Clinic and this site but they believe any comments on the Igm are unreliable opinions/blogs.

Thanks again!

The herpes igm test is a  flawed test and we don't recommend its use for diagnosing herpes in adults. your provider should read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines to better update their knowledge about herpes testing.  I"m not even sure your provider ordered type specific herpes igg blood testing either which is another mistake on their part.

pretty much ignore your + igm. If you got your herpes igg blood test 21 weeks after a prior partner and your current partner is testing negative, you know it's a false positive which is the biggest issue with it.
