could it be somthing else?

Okay, so I'm 4 months pregnant and about a month and a half ago I started getting a patch of itchy bumps on the outside top of my vagina. About a week and a half later they were still there and very very ichy. The bumps were just very red and small, no puss that i could tell. I remembered I read somewhere that pregnacy could bring herpes out. So i went to my O.B.G.Y.N. He could not do a culture so he did a blood test. In the 2 weeks waiting for my results the bumps spread to the inner lips of my vagina some going away ,some new ones appearing, and some bigger than others. Some bumps seem to look like white heads then go away but all the while very ichy to the point where i could not stand it. Before i got the results i had to put somthing on it to releive the itching and all i had in the house was some non irritating antibacterial lotion and it relieved the bumps and i think they started getting better. So then i go back to see my doctor and he tells me I was positive for HSV 1. Upset and kind of in shock I tried to ask him as many questions as i could think of at the time. But he just said, "on the brighter side you wont have as many outbreaks and gave me some valtrex." I also did not know much about herpes at that point so i asked him,"I thought type 1 was on your face?"and he said "How does a virus know your body parts." True, but kind of unsensitive I guess. I told him that I didnt feel like what i had was herpes, I mean i know obviously i have it now but, the bumps I have dont want to go away new ones keep popping out. I guess he did not feel it was necessary to test me for anything else. So, its been about a month and a half since the original bumps and they are still there getting worse actually. Does that sound like an outbreak. Been taking valtex for 4 days no improvement.

Thank you for responding. You guys are so helpful I appreciate it so much. I go back to the doctor in two weeks but Ill call today and make them get me in earlier. My doctor should have told me all this. I was thinking all the things you both told me but was not sure. I also dont understand why he wouldnt test 4 those other things. I had to swich my old O.B who i loved because he dosnt deliver babies no more and a freind refered me to this one. I dont think i like him. If he dosnt make me feel better this time. I will switch again. Thank you again with all your help.

You absolutely can not diagnose genital hsv1 from a blood test.  That's the only testing you had done correct?  Statistically your hsv1 is oral and it's probably something you've had for a long time and is completely unrelated to what's currently going on in your genital area.  The blood test tells you what you have, not where you have it.

I encourage you to return to your provider for further work up. You are pregnant so this shouldn't be put off.  Did they test you for yeast and bacterial infections the last visit? They need to look at this again because it's very, very unlikely to be hsv1 genitally.

Sorry to hear that they weren't able to better answer your questions and give you the proper care you deserved with all this :(  They've upset you and worried you needlessly.

Hello, What do the bumps look like?  do they have a little indent in the middle?  If so this sounds like it could be mulluscum but im not a doctor so im not sure; herpes doesnt usually hang around that long.  Your doctor was definitely insensitive in telling you that, types 1 and 2 can develop in either section, but they are less severe when they dont have home court advantage so to speak.  Saying that if you have hsv1 genitally it is much less severe than hsv 2 but it doesnt sound like that.  blood tests just determine if you have antibodies so you could have come up positive for hsv1 from cold sores when you were a kid.  I would look up pictures of molluscum and see if those look like your bumps.  Molluscum is caused by a virus and is very contagious, so you probably would be spreading it from one part of your body to another over and over again, i have molluscum and hsv1 genitally, and let me tell you the molluscum is more frustrating lol.  it is very contagious and is supposed to clear up on its own but i still have mine so im having them frozen off soon.  But check online at pictures of molluscum and see if that is what you have, and see a different doctor and see what they say, i hope this helps
