Hello Dr.,
I've been reading these threads in my research all day after getting my results in an attempt to better understand what is going on with me. My boyfriend found a bump on his scrotum and got a virus culture which came back positive for Herpes. So, naturally, I went and got tested. I've never experienced an outbreak before, so I had to get a blood test. I got a combination of IgM and Herpes Select IgG (or so I was told, not sure if there are any other brands). The IgM was 1.82: positive. This test I already know to disregard, but the IgG results were HSV-1: 2.70: positive and HSV-2: <0.91: negative. I've read on this thread that a 3.0 is unequivocal. Would 2.70 fall into that category, rounding up? I was told I should get tested again since i reported it only being 1-2 weeks since my potential exposure. What are my chances of this being a false positive? Is the test picking up HSV-2 instead?

Since I tested positive for HSV-1, what kind or precautions do I need to take now? I asked Planned Parenthood about my treatment options and they told me they only treat for HSV-2, which makes no sense due to the fact that both types are pretty similar, and can still be spread from the mouth to the genitals and vice versa. I have no health insurance or a primary doctor, so what can I do to ensure I get the treatment i need and the preventive measures for spreading the disease?
