Just wanted to know the accuracy of a negative type specific igg herpes test.

I had received a flue shot about 3 or 4 weeks before getting a herpes blood test done and have had no symptoms i just got it done to be safe.

the test came back positive at 2.1 for hsv2

when I had found out there was a high rate of false positive in this range I decided  I would wait and see if it was the shot and go back in 6 weeks

I have received my results back last friday and am completely negative for both 1 and 2

my question is can I trust these negative results, it has been 5 months since I have had any sexual contact with anyone

your first result was a false positive - they are common which is why we always recommend follow up testing.

be happy you are negative and go have fun :)

Just wondering though even with the previously  positive result is this negative result reliable enough or should I have another test run to be sure

sweet well thats a great weight off my mind =) I just wanted to be sure I coud trust the test.

but yes i started using anti fungal cream 2 days ago and its nearly gone now finally!

no reason to think it's herpes. herpes rashes won't linger like this plus you've tested negative.

thanks grace, yea i spoke with an infectious disease doctor

when I told him about it he thought it might be fungal. He recommended Lotramin and since i've put it on it seems to be clearing up

The strange thing is, is that this rash hasn't re- occurred, it just hasn't gone away and has been getting better and worse for the past 2 months

However since its been 5 months and the igg type specific test came back negative, do you think the negative result is reliable enough to rule out herpes?

be seen every time you have this rash to try to figure out what is causing it.

ok thank you very much, the only reason im worrying is because i have these red spots on my penis that have been healing and re- appearing for the past 2 months. all evidence points away from herpes but needless to say its nerve-racking and its been two months and I just want them to be healed

no reason not to believe the second test results since enough time has passed since your last sexual encounter...the first was most probably a false positive

if you are not comfortable with the discordant results, you can get a western blot test
