oral sex and genital herpes

My husband and I both have genital herpes. Here's my question, can we spread HSV 2 to our mouths when we perform oral sex on one another? I know that if we were to have intercourse just before/during an outbreak it wouldn't cause the other partner to have an outbreak. We've pretty much stopped pleasuring each other in this way largely due to the fact that we've had a baby. I'm scared to death of passing the virus to her by kissing her. Thanks in advance for your response.

I noticed your user name is gracefromHHP. I actually googled HHP and herpes home page came up. Are you affiliated or am I way off? Your responses to me and others proves you're knowledgeable about the subject. I was just curious. Got to run! I have a date with my hubby!

Unfortunately most medical providers don't know enough about herpes to know what info their patients really want to know.  That's why forums like this are so useful - so you can ask these sorts of questions and get the answers you need :)

Now go have fun!!!!

Thanks! I'm a little bit of an over-protective, first-time mother. Can you tell?!?

If you both have hsv2 genitally - it doesn't get any easier!  You aren't likely to contract hsv2 orally - just use common sense - don't perform oral sex on a partner if they are experiening an active genital ob or feel like one might be about to start.

Stop limiting your sex life!!! You both have it already!!  You can do anything you want and should do it to your partner!!!  You can even have sex during an ob if it's comfortable - you won't make each other's infections "worse" or trigger an ob in the other.
