I'm glad you did the western blot and happy for you that it is negative. If the nurse is worried about how many others have been misdiagnosed, she could ask the lab to pull all the results with an index value of 1.1 to 3.5 and bring people in for western blots.
Terri
I received my WB results type 1 positive type 2 was negative which is a huge relief! Even the nurse said she is now concerned with how many others have been misdiagnosed! I hope others will make the effort to do a WB
I hardly know how to respond in a restrained way. But it is totally your call, get a western blot and really know what is going on or just accept what you are told. There errors in the advice you got but it is up to you to come to an educated decision.
Terri
I went to a different dr and she said the same thing as my first: you have it, so what, get over it. They were very hesitant about doing the WB test and said its not needed. She said just bc hsv 2 is present doesn't mean I have in the genital area it could be anyway so now I am more confused than when I started
You can see another provider, but if I were you, I would hold off until you get your western blot. If it is negative, you don't need to do anything else.
Terri
Thank you I have ordered the test and am also going to a different doctor for more testing that can tell me more than "don't worry about it"
Yes, there is a good chance the HSV 2 is a false positive. At that level, there is an 85% chance it is a false positive. You need a western blot confirmation test. You can either order that directly from UW (google herpes western blot University of Washington) or I can order it for your through my clinic. If you have HSV 2, there is a 95% chance you have it at least genitally, which means it is unlikely, if you have it, that you would spread it by giving someone else oral sex.
But get a confirmation test, for sure
Terri
I also wanted to know how likely
I could have spread herpes to
Others by giving oral sex if I didn't not have any kind of sores on or in mouth
