understanding my results

On May 14, I went to have a full STD testing. I have never had any symptoms, but just wanted to be sure. I started to panic when my Dr.'s office called for me to make an appointment to go over the results.

All were negative except for the herpes test, the results were displayed as follows:

            Negative           1.0

HSV, Types I/II, IgG/HSV I/II IGG         <0.9 Index

(for the first page of herpes results)

            Negative           1.09

HSV, Type II, IgM Antibodies/HSV, IGM I/          1.09 Ratio     H
(for the second page)

The tests were done by Labcorp, and all my Dr. told me was "that I have been exposed to HSV II and am now a carrier of the virus. Any Questions?"

I have been with my girl friend for 5 months, she was tested in the beginning of our relationship and was negative for all STD's. She got tested again on May 22, after I told her the results of my test, and was still negative for everything. We have been having unprotected sex for at least four months.

Is it possible that I have a False reading? If so, how long should I wait before I go to a second source for a test? and would the health department be more reliable than my Dr?

Hello.
Back in February, I had STD tests done.  My doctor called and said I was positive for herpes.  I called the lab (Quest) and inquired about my testing.  They said I had the HerpesSelect IgG HSV-2 anitbody test- their most accurate.  My IgG number was 1.13, and they said over 1.10 is positive, but that my number was so close, they recommended getting tested again. I found this site, and realized that my first test could have very likely been a false positive.  I waited 3 months, and got tested last week.  This time my IgG came back as 0.84- negative.  Don't panic (I did), just wait about12 weeks and get tested again.  Reassure your girl and ask her to be patient.  You are probably negative, esp. if you haven't had symptoms and your girl is negative.  I also was under the impression that 1.09 is actually in the equivical range, which is negative.
