by the time we reach the old folks home, 80% of us have hsv1 and most of us have it orally. only 20-40% of folks ever get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected.
one can actually argue that it's far better to have hsv1 genitally than it is orally :)
hsv1 doesn't provide significant protection against contracting hsv2.

okay, another question - has anyone thought of intentionally exposing oneself to hsv1 in a more convenient place then the face or the genitals, someplace to which the access could be easily controlled like the inside of the hand. once the antibodies are in the blood the chances of getting a blister on the face or the genitals are greatly reduced, the blisters on the exposed area could be easily covered with a band-aid, in addition the chances of getting hsv2 are also reduced.
I am thinking if i stay with my gf, even if i did not get the virus now sooner or later i might... rather have it on my hand then of my face or my dick.... any doctors care to comment??
thanks!
meant were you tested for herpes not where btw. must've been more tired than I thought yesterday....lol.
well if you were infected, starting antivirals would keep you from having a full blown cold sore however it also prevents you from getting properly tested and delays how long until you get answers as to if you are even infected or not. make sense? Most folks don't get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected with hsv1. if you treated right after you were potentially exposed ( which btw is practically every time you kiss someone ), you have to wait 3 or 4 months for a blood test to confirm your status.
also just to clarify for other readers, taking herpes antivirals when potentially infected, won't keep you from getting infected, it just keeps you from showing as extensive of symptoms if you were infected.

got tested at a local clinic a while back. i heard that if you took the meds as soon as you had the 1st outbreak than you could minimize the symptoms. not true?
where you tested for herpes ?
nothing you can do at this point.
