nappy cream transmit to baby?

hello everyone, i dont usually use forums but i really need your help. i have recently been diagnosed with genetal herpes. before diagnosis i had no idea wot these spots and soreness was. i was putting my babies sudocream and metanium on the sores and without really thinking i then changed my little ones nappy and used the same tuble and pot if cream for her little bottom. i am now so so worried that i could have passed genetal herpes onto her. i cant see any other posts similar to this and i am super scared now.  i love her so very much and have been so upset.  please if someone could help me with regards to this i would very much appreciate it.  x

this is not a risk to your baby dear. I would assume you were putting the cream on your fingers and then putting it on your genital area - you wouldn't have gotten any herpes virus into the cream.  even if you did redip your fingers into the cream, as catinbarefeet already said - not an issue since the virus doesn't survive well away from body temperature. You'd have to have literally put the cream on your genital area and then turned around and applied it to your baby for it to even begin to be an issue.

we call herpes a sexually transmitted infection for a reason - it takes that sort of naked and intimate contact to transmit the virus. soaps and lotions shared by family members are not an issue.

Take a deep breath, my dear.

I'm afraid I can't speak as to whether or not you transferred virus to your baby. I can tell you that the likelihood is very low because the virus is very fragile, does not live very long outside the body, and requires specific conditions to survive.

However, I'm not a doctor, so I'm going to recommend that you monitor your baby carefully every day and, at the first sign of anything unusual,  take her to see a doctor immediately to get any symptoms cultured.

Also, soap and water kills the virus instantly, so wash your hands with soap before every single time you touch your baby. This will help protect her immensely. Many hugs - try not to stress. She's probably just fine.
