When it comes to hsv1, there doesn't seem to be as much of a false positive issue as there is for hsv2. We typically assume that most hsv1+ results, really are since hsv1 is so widespread and common.

One more question. I posted another thread before I realized I should have added on here. Can 1.78 be considered a low positive or false positive? Is there a difference? I've read that 1.1 is considered negative? Is that correct also.
Most folks who have hsv1 orally, never get obvious cold sores to know it. Odds are that your hsv1 is oral and you don't have any reason to suspect otherwise.
In order to make educated decisions about precautions, your current partner needs tested to know his own herpes status.

I'm gonna bump this with one more comment which is my ex never had any symptoms of hsv 1 either.
I also did ask my ex if he was ever tested and he said no, and that he felt most people carry the virus so not to worry.
