reading results accurately & without confusion

Hi,

I really need to know accurately & without confusion.  If a blood test for Herpes reads as follows:
HERPES SIMPLEX SEROLOGY
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 IgG DETECTED
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 IgG NOT DETECTED
Hepes Simplex Virus Type 1 and 2 IgM EQUIVOCAL

If the Herpes Simplex Type 2 IgG states Not Detected but the IgM for 1 & 2 states Equivocal does this mean there is a possibility I have HSV Type 2?

and if another test result state as follows:
GRAM STAIN: Numerous leucocytes and normal flora only seen.
HERPES SIMPLEX ANTIGEN EIA & CULTURE
  SITE  Genital
+HSV  POSITIVE
  HSV CULTURE No virus isolated

Is this what they call a false positive?  Please would you explain it simply to me, I show 2 different doctors and they said 2 different things.

Please let me know, awaiting your response.

Kind Regards

What is enough time? ,  do you mean after sex, if you think you have already been infected?
or after the initially contracting the virus/infection?

Thank you again

The EIA test is the herpes blood test.

Evidently your culture was negative. Did you have symptoms that they cultured?

Any type specific herpes igg blood test is fine to use as long as enough time has passed. You don't have to have the WB in order to get a good test done.

One other quick but important question.

Does IgG mean in the past? In other words EVER in the past or current past like 3 -6 months??

Kind Regards

Grace,

Thank you so so much for answering me.  I am sorry I left out the EIA, all other details I have written on the above message are exactly what is written on the results:
GRAM STAIN: Numerous leucocytes and normal flora only seen.
HERPES SIMPLEX ANTIGEN EIA & CULTURE
  SITE  Genital
+HSV EIA  POSITIVE
  HSV CULTURE No virus isolated

I talked to another doctor at a different STD clinic & she told me that because of the words NO VIRUS ISOLATED even though it states positive next to HSV that this  is a false positive & I do not have HSV 2.

You mentioned this is a poor test, I am not sure of where you are: in America, Australia or elsewhere. I want to know which blood test would be a test NOT to disregard & read accurately and be sure about.  I have been scanning the internet for the past 3 months and it states the Western Blot Test to be the GOLD standard of all tests, but unfortunately, in Australia I have been told that they do not do the Western Blot Test.

the herpes igm blood test is a poor test and shouldn't be ordered.  disregard the results.

Your hsv1 is +.

Your hsv2 is -.

The way your culture results are posted I'm confused. Did they say the culture was + or -?
