A couple of months ago, the guy I was dating decided to tell me that the girlfriend he had before me was positive for HSV2.  He'd known about it.  They were careful, etc.  But, I decided to get tested for peace of mind.  I tested negative on the IGG test, but positive on the IGM.  I initially freaked out, and made both my boyfriend and my ex get tested (these are the only two partners I've had in the last year).  Both have tested negative.  After reading about the IGM and knowing these two were negative, I wasn't too worried.  The only thing that made sense was that I'd had a false positive.

Six weeks later, I had a retest.  This time I tested positive on the IGG and negative on the IGM, and I'm trying to make some sense of all of this.  My doc is telling me that this is what she expected after my initial positive IGM.  That it makes sense for a recent exposure.  She keeps insisting that I can get it from kissing as well.  My results for the positive IGG are pretty strong, too (7. something)  I just want to figure out how I got it.  None of the timing makes sense.  I guess my main question is about how long, or maybe what is the longest amount of time it takes for conversion, or from exposure to test positive on an IGG?  Do I need to investigate even further back than a year?I've had a few tests over the past couple of years, and before all of this, have always tested negative for everything.  I've had no signs or symptoms of an outbreak.

My next plan of action is to go to planned parethood and get tested.  I'm assuming they have a little more experience and can perhaps counsel me a little better?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think so.  I'm planning to pick up my results from my most recent test, as well as tests from the past year+ in the next day or two.  I'll post them as soon as I get them.

Thanks
