should i be so paranoid?

OK...i have been w/ my girlfriend now for a little over a year a short time ago we both had irritation on our genitals we both came to the conclusion that it was a yeast infection her doctor did as well. After a few days of the prescribed treatment not working she returned to the doctor and they diagnosed her w/ trich they prescribed  some medication which they gave to her and I which within three days completely cleared up my symptoms although i did take it for the full 7 days suggested by the doctors. She got slightly better but still had some irritation so she returned to the doctors and they tested her for herpes they test game back and they informed her that she had a mild case of Hsv-1, this completly devastated us. I have never had any symptoms of herpes or hsv-1 in paticular like cold sores or anything in the gential region w/ the exception of the trich which was cleared up by the medication. I am so depressed and having a lot of anxiety should i be so worried? , what are the chances that i also have hsv-1 in the gentials? should we expect her to have periodic breakouts of hsv-1 in her genitals? .....Thanks in Advance for any light you can shed on this matter.

Well if they did a lesion culture - the next step is for both of you to get type specific herpes igg blood tests for hsv1 and hsv2. That way you can start figuring out who has what so you can make educated decisions about what precautions you want to utilize.

the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource to read more at as far as hsv1 genitally and also how to protect a partner if it turns out this is just her first obvious reactivation of hsv1 genitally and not a newly acquired infection.

Hang in there - you'll both get this figured out soon :)
