told it was probably herpes without a test - HELP!

Hello

I am 42 years old and have been in a monogamous relationship for 5 years. We are both extremely faithful and have not cheated (yes I am 100% certain).
About a month and a half ago, I felt sore when wiping after urination. I noticed that I had two small sores - looked like canker sores - on my labia minora. They hurt quite a bit when I urinated and wiped. I used Hydrogen Peroxide to disinfect and they went away after about 1 week. About 2 weeks ago, they came back at the same location. Again, I used hydrogen peroxide and they was gone in a couple of days. I never noticed blisters, no puss, no other sores and I've never had a "cold sore"
I saw a gynocologist yesterday and explained the sores to her. Without any exam or test she said "sounds like herpes to me". I'm still in shock. How unprofessional can a doctor be to blurt out "herpes" without a test?  SHe told me I should come back when I have the sores again so that she can take a culture. I asked about a blood test and she claimed that they aren't accurate.
I should mention that I have had a problem with excess discharge for a few years. I have been tested for a multitude of STDs, BV, etc.. but they all came back negative. My gut feeling was that these sores were related to the discharge going untreated for all those years. Now I'm worried sick that it might be herpes.
1) How long can herpes be dormant before the first outbreak?
2) Is it true that blood tests aren't accurate?
3) Can those sores be caused by anything else? If so, what??

I'm freaking out. Please help. I don't know what to do.

Definitely getting tested for herpes is the best course of action. Both you and your partner should have type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. The blood tests are quite useful - no need to wait for a return of symptoms unless you only test + for hsv1.

you can be infected with herpes for many years without realizing it.

yes other things can cause the lesions but herpes is the most common cause of them.

I should also add that I did not have any other symptoms- no fever, no swollen glands, no aches, etc... that may be associated with a herpes outbreak.
