unrelenting cold sore

after having 3 months of strange mouth sores, i was diagnosed with herpes simplex 1. once i'd been told what they were and how to treat them (including a valtrex perscription) the outbreak has pretty much cleared up.

except for one sore that remains. it's been there for approximately 4 weeks. it was the last to develop and also the largest and most painful. at its height, there was some yellowish puss that drained. once this happened it decreased dramatically in size but still remains. when i push my tongue against the inside of my mouth corresponding to the sore, the middle appears to be white, possibly with some fluid or something inside.

is this just a cold sore that won't go away? i've been wanting to open it and try and drain out whatever is inside but i don't want to irritate it and make it worse. could it be a bacterial infection in the skin? if so what can i do to heal it? could it be a staph infection? if so, what are my options if i don't have insurance and therefore can't get antibiotics?

Continue to follow up with your providers as needed.  This isn't all a herpes issue if herpes was ever even part of what all is going on.

well they've ruled out staph infection and impetigo. now i'm on an antibiotic that would help if its some sort of bacterial skin infection; but they just aren't sure. i'm just so exhausted from dealing with this planet near my lip.

i finally broke down and opened it last night with a sterilized needle, hydrogen peroxide, neosporin....i try and be as clean as possible when i do something like this. there was a little drainage and when the skin is stretched it no longer has the white-ish fluid filled appearance.

i'm hoping the combo of cleaning it out plus antibiotics will clear it up. but if not, any other suggestions?

my health and fitness has dramatically improved so i've got that part covered.

it would be very unusual to have cold sore symptoms for 3 months.  what testing did they do for you?

I'd return next week to have this looked at again.
