Herpetic whitlow

I have never done this before and hope this is the way to post a question. I really need your help! I am 29 years old and have had hsv 2 for at least 4 years, perhaps longer! I am not on any meds. Last Tuesday I had some mild on and off again itching but not so bad to where I would have to actually scratch myself and there was not any lesions present! On this day I was fingered and then noticed I got my period! Nine days later the guy that fingered me had a band aid on his thumb....he told me he developed two blisters on his thumb and to keep from picking at them he put the band aid on. He said they are not painful and there is no redness or swelling just the small clear vesicles. Also when he was picking at them he said fluid would come out. I'm scared to death he now has herpetic whitlow. He does not seemed worried because they are annoying but have not interrupted his daily activities! Please help and let me know if you think this may be whitlow or a terrible coincidence. Thank you so much and I pray I did this right and you get this message!!!

it's low risk of contracting herpes on the hands in general.

Thanks Grace! In your opinion does the situation I described carry a great deal of risk for transmission?
