Well not if you are negative. Do not take the doctors word here just yet.
Sorry if my post was confusing and thank you for the advice on the test. I will do some research. For further clarification my coworker and I have never hooked up but there have been some suggestive drunk texts back and forth so I am worried that he might try to make a move when we are out of town for work. I am not sure how to handle deflecting the situation or if I should tell him or not?
It seemed like it was a 'sudden' blood test from your first post!
You absolutely need to seek further testing for clarification.
You need to explicitly request IgG antibodies type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. Do not do any other test, regardless of what they offer, insist on this.
I apologize for the novel Fleetwood but here is my story:
I went in for my annual exam and my gynocologist said she wanted to test my thyroid because I had significant weight gain and I feel fatigued all the time. She then asked if I wanted to do a blood test for stds while I was at it so I said ok. I have never had an outbreak or any symptoms that I know of but I thought why not it might be good to check. I got a call a week later and I was told everything came back ok but that I tested positive for genital herpes. I called back a few weeks later and asked to confirm my type after reading some stuff on this forum and she said it was HSV2. I never actually saw any test results and I do not know what test it was other than it was a blood test. I got a bill from the lab and it looks like it might have been an IG test? I don't know that I have ever had a blood test run for STDs until then so I may have contracted it a long time ago I am not sure but I hadn't been sexually active for about 2 years until I slept with someone unprotected at a wedding after too many drinks back in Feb. Before then I used condoms on and off but not as much as I should have. I have an appointment to get tested again on Tuesday just for some peace of mind. I am also trying to figure out which test I took and I tried to find out which one pp uses but the lady on the phone told me it depends on the lab my insurance uses??
How were diagnosed with HSV2?
