Can't seem to get a response.. a Few Questions?

Probably having a hard time getting a response due to the hour at which I make my posts! Understandably so, but wanting to give it another shot.

Hello, I am a female in her early twenties.  I recently got an abnormal pap and am wondering if it's ok to get a flu shot regardless of my lgsil result?

Also, I'm confused as to how I contracted cervical hpv in the first place since I have never exposed myself to it.  There has never been any contact besides receiving oral (as well as kissing).  Is cervical HPV possible to get via oral sex?  I don't understand the logistics of the whole thing. I know one can get it through skin to skin contact, but how does that develop into HPV inside the vagina, rather than the warts on the outside?  How is the virus able to get inside?

Anyone know of an option other than the colposcopy? Trying to stay away from anything too invasive unless absolutely necessary, as the smallest thing causes bad Fibromyalgia Syndrome flare ups. A friend of mine told me she refused the colposcopy ($500 out of pocket) and they told her they can instead do an HPV DNA swab and it will tell them the same thing.  I hear so many different things from different doctors.

I'm having to wait about a month to get the colposcopy due to a cold (currently) which will be followed by my menstrual period, which will then be followed by my being out of town for a while for my brother's wedding, which will then be followed by a couple other Dr. appts for my Fibromyalgia.  As I said, my result was LGSIL.  Unfortunately, I have to switch doctors because mine is relocating and is currently not taking any more appointments.  Their office did say it would be fine to wait.  Wondering your opinions on this?

Thanks!

Thanks! They scheduled
Me for a repap in January to see if it was a false positive and to see whether or not the colposcopy/biopsy is necessary :) . Two friends of mine had the same results years ago and both either healed or were false positives by the time they followed up 9 months later. No colposcopies or hpv tests for them either. Some doctors give it time to heal on it's own before a colposcopy and do another pap in a few months, apparently. Mine is only waiting three months and I'm fine with that. If I have positive results again after the repap I'll get the hpv DNA and colposcopy according to my doc. People have always had this problem and VERY few have any problems due to it, from what they told me. Happy to know! I'll continue eating and being healthy of course. Thanks again!

An hpv test doesn't/can't replace a colop..it's just good to know DEFINITELY if you have the infection ..for your own knowledge and for future partners..the colop allows the doc a better view of the cervix to view the cells.

good luck and glad that i could help..

Thanks, I'm always well stocked in the veggie and healthy eating department - also imperative in staying comfortable when you have FMS and I'm takin the vitamins! Unfortunately I did catch the flu and am dealing with that one right now.  I have read and been told that an abnormal pap with an lgsil result will normally heal itself within 2 years (though i know it can come back at any time).  I'd certainly prefer the HPV pap test rather than the colposcopy (at least to begin with-if possible) because the colposcopy will certainly put me out of commission for a while after resulting in what I'm 99% sure will be a Fibromyalgia flare up.
Once again, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and research!  Thank you. :)

an hpv test is a seperate test given @ a gyn exam..because of your age it isn't  given to women under 30 or 35 depending on the gyn office unless your PAP comes back abnormal. You can request it..just so you have concrete evidence. Unfortunately..the majority of us we have gotten hpv DIDN't know that we were exposing ourselves to it..regardless of how it was transmitted. In the meantime before your next appt..you should be trying to strengthen your immune system  by taking a multi w/ folic (@ least 800mg a day max is 1200mg), eat healthy(dark leafy greens/spinach bright veggies carrots/sweet potato), exercise, reduce stress, no smoking/drinking...good luck

ps ( the body has been shown to heal itself naturally in terms of the cell change... )

Thank you.  Right, what I was saying was that as far as I know, I hadn't exposed myself to it UNLESS it's transmittable via oral sex.  My pap result was LGSIL. An actual HPV test hasn't been given. Is that another test that is done with a swab?  That's what I'd like to do before proceeding to a colposcopy.

you can still get the flu vaccines..the flu viruses have nothing to do w/ having hpv.

you HAVE exposed yourself to HPV because you've been sexually active...sex isn't just penetration..it's oral also. It's diifficult to get it orally..but not impossible if someone performed oral on when you and they had the virus in their mouth and it was active/transmittable. The strain that causes warts (low risk) is different than the one that increases your risk for certain cancers (and even w/ the additional risk of having HPV ..it's still extremely small). that being said  abnormal paps aren't always because of HPV (although they usually are). Have you been tested for HPV? you should be.
Unfortunately I can't help you w/ the other questions...hope i was able to help...
