Genital Warts

Hi There,
I was diagnosed with Genital warts (due to a few tiny bumps between my vagina and anus) a few weeks ago. I literally told the doctor what I thought it was and she looked for 2 seconds and said thats what it is. However I have done some research and the bumps don't really look like warts (ie they aren't very cauliflower like) there is also some new ones coming up which look like molluscum contagiosum. I am investing in a magnifying glass to see if I can see a white middle however am  I right in thinking this only comes up when you have had them a while. The bumps are only there sometimes. I have sent pics to my GP, a dermatologist and another doctor. The responses I got where
GP-to be honest with you they are both virus infection and treatment would be the same.
the issue is not the diagnosis but what to do next after having this lesions on the area. Genital warts are more serious then molluscum contagiosum as they are associated with STDs. Unfortunately, they can both look the same and sometimes difficult to differentiate one from the other.
We tend to suspect any warts on the vaginal area as genital warts
Dermatologist - They don't look like typical genital warts. You will have to come in to be sure.
Other doctor- Yes they look like warts.

I talked to the GP via email and explained that of course the diagnosis is the main thing. I would take cryotherapy etc everyday if it meant I only had molluscum. The emotional strain of genital warts totally outweighs the physical side effects. MY GP said that I was right and that one should be sure about what they have and is finding out with the histology lab about biopsies.

Can anyone help me. Have they had similar experiences? When they are so small it is hard to tell what they really look like especially on that skin down there. I have had one cryo treatment and it has worked really really well.

Hello,
Both mollusucm and HPV warts do not disappear on their own. From the description of your symptoms it looks like folliculitis. Chances of STD’s appearing so soon are very less. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. It starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle.
Wear cotton underwear and keep the area clean. Also use mild soaps like Dove. Apply Neosporin or Bactroban cream on the bumps. If they decrease in size then it is folliculitis. If they remain the same then cysts should be ruled out.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi, for the most part molluscum would have an indented center or a pit in the center. Only visual examine is the way both are diagnosed but your doctor can do a in office biopsy which will help to determine if it is hpv or Molluscum
