Genital Warts-Is there no definitive answer?

Hi,
I was diagnosed by a REGULAR DOCTOR with Genital Warts. She told me that the virus stays in your system indefinitely. She said that even if my warts go away,  it would should disclose my experience to a future sexual partner (even if have been clinically cleared for several years).
Even with frequent treatment, I have still had my warts for years now.  I have recently been seeing a DERMATOLOGIST at a public health clinic to treat my warts.  When I asked him if I should tell any future partners years after the warts clear, he exclaimed emphatically, "NO! You have HPV, not Herpes, where you may be experiencing outbreaks for the rest of you life. Once your GW clears, they're gone."  I feel like I'm getting mixed signals from the med-pro world.
I WANT to believe the derm, as I imagine derm trums regular docs on these issues.   Do any doctors/dermatologists have any feelings on this?

The md isn't up to date. The derm is and naturally he would be. Check ashastd.org for up to date valid info that supports your derms statement. For years genital warts were considered life long. There is some debate that you could technically still carry the virus at undetectable levels yet never having an outbreak again. Kinda like having chicken pox virus and never having chicken pox again.

You should post this in the human papillomavirus forum.  This virus is what causes genital warts.
