GARDASIL and HPV questions

I want to be vaccinated but I have a few questions.
I performed oral sex to a boy 5 months ago (only once). I have never had vaginal sex in my life. I know the chances I got infected with HPV or any STD's are low, but if I got HPV can it spread  to my cervix if a touch my mouth and then my genitals?  Or I can be sure I had avoided the virus in my genitals so far (I know is a fact of life to have at least one type of HPV if you have a normal sexual life) but I just had that sexual contact (oral sex). I'm starting and I want it to be safe from now on.
If I ever catch HPV in my mouth, for example (type 16), the vaccine still will prevent me from having it in my genitals?

Thank you!

is it likely you contracted hpv orally from performing oral sex once? no it is not.

certainly get your hpv shot series now before you are more sexually active so you can be protected by the 4 types of genital hpv infection that the vaccine protects against  :)

also protect yourself and only have protected sexual contact- that includes oral sex!! not worth the risk!!

No you cannot assume that. Oral HPV is very rare but it occurs. The spreading from your mouth to your genitals via your own fingers is an extremely low risk. There is a test that some dentists are providing for oral HPV. Cost is approx $150.

Thanks for your answer, I know the vaccine only protect you against an infection you don't have. But what I don't understand is how HPV works on the body. I know that if you get herpes in your mouth (type 1 or 2) it will only appear in your mouth, but what about HPV, if I got it  orally, can I assume that I don't have it in my genitals (vagina or cervix)???

No.  The vaccine cannot stop an infection you may have already gotten. It only protects you against infection you never had.
