It is possible that you got a mixed infection and that you have both low and high risk HPV. I’m not sure how your Dr. diagnosed you with high risk. Did he/she do an HPV test with your Pap that came back positive. If they did then that would be the Qiagen (used to be Digene) HPV test and it is a hybrid capture test, but it only tells you that you are high risk and positive for 1 of thirteen HPV’s, it does not tell you the strain or if you are positive for more than one. This is the test they do in the US and they do not test for low risk in the US. The best test for HPV is to be HPV PCR DNA tested. Sometimes genital warts are misdiagnosed, so I would get a second opinion or get one of them biopsied. What was your Dr. planning on doing for your high risk HPV and what were the suggestions for the genital warts? And how old are you as HPV is treated differently for different age groups. And don’t panic because both high risk and low risk usually clear with time with your immune system.
Hello,
The strain of HPV causing cervical cancer is different from the one causing genital warts. The best method of detecting and diagnosing HPV in women is through a regular pelvic exam and Pap smear. However to detect the strain, Qiagen or hybrid capture test can be done. You can get it done from your gynecologist.
