HPV Transmission oral and genital to hand

Have been in a 17 year monogamous relationship. However I recently received unprotected oral sex from a sex worker, while fingering her vagina at the same time. I tested negative for all STDs with the exception of HPV 51 on my penis.

If I understand the other posts correctly, the risk of getting HPV from receiving oral sex is low. In addition, the risk of getting Genital HPV on my hand and subsequently transferring it to my own genitals is also remote. If true, what can reasonably explain how I got HPV 51 on my penis?  Perhaps I got it from vaginal intercourse with my wife,  but I strongly believe she has not cheated.  Any other explanations? Is it possible, the test produced a false positive?

Thank you for your counseling.

The doctor's forum is no longer active. Since men cannot be tested except via a biopsy of a wart, I will assume that you had one removed and tested. A false positive is always possible but not really likely. Oral sex can result in genital HPV but it isn't likely.  Your wife should be tested. Unfortunately, you cannot play detective with HPV and determine which sex act resulted in the wart. Usually a positive test result comes from a recent sex act but it sometimes can be from a past (years ago) sex act.
