HPV Warts and Future Partners

I was treated for warts about 14 years ago. I have had longterm relationships since then where my partner didn't have any outbreaks. I have continued to be outbreak free and have normal paps. I've been single for awhile and am starting to date again. The last guy I dated I messed around with and I told him after the fact because I felt so guilty and stopped talking to me. I'm morally and ethically debating on whether I should tell anyone I date. My doctor told me since I was in my early 20s when I was diagnosed I probably cleared the virus and shouldn't disclose anything. I question what "clearing the virus" means. There is so much different information on the web that I don't know what to think. In your experience or knowledge do you think I can view myself as being HPV wart virus free and live with some sense of peace. My fear of rejection is destroying what little self esteem I have left.

The chances of you being contagious, at least related to the incident years ago, is really low, probably not any more than somebody in the general population. Still, many people feel it is important to be upfront about these sort of things. Smart, mature, men, the type you are likely looking for, will do the research and realize that the risk to them is practically nil.

As for what does cleared mean? People who are diagnosed with HPV through the HPV test no longer test positive after a period of time. Whether this means the virus is gone or drastically reduced is unclear, but it is unlikely that they are infectious while the virus is supressed to these levels.
