HPV and worried

Recently spoke to an ex girlfriend who told me she had been diagnosed with HPV before we were together but never told me.  I am now very worried about my chances of having HPV.  I have never had any visible warts, but I have a circular scar directly under the crown of my penis.  It's been there for as long as I can remember, I'm pretty sure it's a scar from when I had chicken pox years ago but can't be sure.  I do think I had this scar long before I was sexually active, but that was 12 years ago and I can't be certain.

How common are cysts or other skin conditions not linked to STDs on the penis and how likely is this scar a product of those conditions.

I'm going to the Dr's but looking for some peace of mind between now and then.

Have you been circumcised? Circumcision scars are quite common.

As are small cysts, glands, and other things that make penile skin look less than smooth.

Warts usually don't last for more than a year or two, so I would not be worried about anything you had for 12 years, especially if it showed up before sexual activity.

Thanks for the reply.  I am uncircumsized.

I have had this scar tissue for years.  If I had a wart and it went away would it not leave scar tissue?

Also, my current girlfriend has pap smears every 6 months.  She's only in her twenties is that normal, or is it a likely indication of a previous HPV infection?

If warts go away on their own, i don't think they usually scar.

Yearly is more typical. You haven't asked her?

I haven't asked her, until I started looking into this stuff online I knew nothing about it.  I wasn't suspicious of a pap smear every 6 months.
