HSIL 16/18

TO DR's,
I was told by my MD that I have HSIL 16/18. I have no s/s. have been in monogamous relationship with my husband for 14 years. My husband does not have either any relationship in the past. and I trust him. I felt very depressed. I dont know where I got this? HAd family history of cancer. I had pap 2006 or 2007and it was normal. then I did the essure procedure oct 2007, and had one yeast infection nov 2010, treated with monistat. IS there any correlation between my essure procedure and the yeast infection why I got this? please enlighten. Im going to my gyne next week sched for colposcopy. So meaning to say my husband is also positive. is there any cure? vaccine? thanks

First I have no idea what the essure procedure is. You have an abnormal Pap. HSIL means High grade intraepithelial lesion but before you panic; Paps are imperfect and are now read by a computer in most cases. Your 16/18 test is not a 100% reliable. All the combined 2 results mean is that you need to have a colposcopy in order to get a biopsy, to get a true diagnosis. Cervical cancer is rare and it is possible that you may have a few abnormal cells which is called dysplasia and if that happens they may wait to see if it resolves or they may want to remove it--once it is gone or removed it is gone. They usually do a LEEP procedure if it is necessary and just burn the cells off. Cervical cancer is usually slow growing over 10-15 years and the fact that you had a normal Pap in 2007 helps. However you really need to get a Pap at least every 3 years. Your family history of cancer does not mean much, maybe mildly increased if there is a family history of cervical cancer specifically. You also may be entering either perimenopause or menopause and in this case some of the mild Pap abnormalities may just be changes due to that. Don’t worry—just go through the process and have the colposcopy and then report the results back if you want.
Your Yeast infection has nothing to do with this, women get yeast infections all the time.
You can’t have the vaccine, it would not work anyway. Don’t panic, it may be just nothing. And even if you had dysplasia there are treatments that are very effective.
Good Luck...
