Was he a virgin when he met her? If not, he could have gotten it then. Sometimes, women don't get HPV positive results for years after infection but this is not the usual case. If one of them rubbed genitals with someone before they married but they did not have sex, they could have gotten infected then too. The odds are that he cheated on her because this virus requires genital to genital skin contact and is usually found in a women's test within 3-6 months of infection. If he is innocent and both people had no sexual contact at all when they met, then this is a mystery. I do not buy the theory that you can get it from towels or toilet seats. This doesn't make sense based on everything I have read online. Genital skin contact is required.
Was her pap test normal? if it was, it's not a concern.
odds are she was not ever tested for hpv before with her pap. we don't routinely test for it and usually don't even test for it unless there is an abnormal pap test result. hard to know if she has had persistent hpv and never knew it, if a prior hpv infection was reoccurring to cause the + hpv dna test, if hubby has a new hpv infection or has a prior hpv infection reoccurring and recently infected her or just what.
clear as mud eh?

Yes Grace, her Pap test was normal. She just wants to know how she got it, if her 2 year old son was harmed and what if she got pregnant again.
as long as her pap was normal, no need to worry. no reason to think her son contracted it and no reason to put off another pregnancy either.
the cdc and ashastd both have terrific info on hpv and pap testing for her to read if she hasn't already too.
