I just had my first smear test and it came back that i have some mild changes.  Is it possible ive had HPV for the past 13 years and not know it?

take a deep breath...relax....thin prep tests done with papas tell about HPV...ask if they did this...a colp would show HPV after tissue sample biopsied in lab.mild cervical changes does not necessarily mean HPV....but only thin prep tests with paps and colps tell the true story!

Thank you for the repliy.
All i have had is this one smear/pap test, and i now have to go in for a colposcopy.  I dont know if i do have HPV im just hoping to elimanate things.  The reason i stated 13 years is becuz ive been with my husband for this long (both not had other relations in this time).

Ah i just got a letter now, and its an apiontment at the hospital next week, maybe they are not truthfull about the "Mild" part?  All seems to be getting pushed along so fast. Or maybe thats normal :s I dont know, but now im even more worried by that...

if u had hpv for 13 years i would think ur cervical changes would be more than mild..was a thin prep test done with pap that definitely sez u have HPV?
