I feel I've been neglected

Hi there,

About 2 months ago, when I went to my local GUM clinic, I was told I had HPV genital warts. When the doctor looked at my cervix, he said "It looks abnormal, it may be something more serious", obviously meaning it might be cancer but he didn't want to say that. Then he had to get another gynaecologist to come and have a look; she said it didn't look like anything to worry about. But now I'm worried in case it has become cancerous and I don't know what to do. My smear test isn't until february so I don't know whether to just wait or to go and speak to my doctor.

Thanks.

Thank you so much, I feel so much better now. I'll try to relax and wait until February.

If you have genital warts, you have a strain of hpv that doesn't lead to cancer. The cancer causing hpv is a different strain, and it dosent cause visible genital warts. I agree you've been treated not very well, they've left you out in the dark. If I were you I wouldn't worry genital warts are harmless health wise. Wait until your smear, if that's abnormal and you have a cancer causing strain you still need not freak out, it takes years before it turns into cancer and before then you'll obviously be wise enough to follow advise from drs and follow any necesary treatment. Treat the strain of hpv you have and worry about different strains if you have to. see another dr for confirmation if you like. Stress will only aggrivate the virus
